Explorar...

First let me start off by stating that the Internet connection here is by far the WORST thing ever conceived! I hope all of Barcelona is not like this…but golly the connection is worse than dial up! Even a hard wired Ethernet connection does not speed up the process; I have no idea why that didn’t work…
Today got started off to a slower start, I had all intentions of going to either the English or Spanish mass, but I woke up too late. Not to mention I had no idea how to get to the cathedral and those who knew had already left…WITHOUT ME! The man up above heard my prayer anyways; it IS the thought that counts right…right…RIGHT?
Afterward I fully awoke and got myself “ready” for the day I made huevos (eggs) and a PB&J, well more like PB&M; the M is for marmalade (strawberry to be exact). I have searched and searched for grape jelly but it does not exist over here, I think they have every other fruit imaginable in marmalade or jam except grape! They have cherry jelly but not grape…that is crazy who likes cherries? Eww. I still have not made a successful helping of los huevos yet. The Moroccan seasoning is not salty enough I guess, or I just need to put more in it. I’ll give the eggs another try with the Moroccan seasoning…then if it doesn’t work I will just use the fancy sea salt that I purchased.
This evening my roommate Lewis, Gerardo (sorry if I spelled your name wrong haha) , and myself went on a little excursion around a portion of the city we have not visited yet. It was neat little “tour” of the city. DISCLAIMER**** I DID NOT BRING MY CAMERA WITH ME!!
The reason I did not bring it with me was because we were just supposed to walk around to get some fresh air, not actually see anything cool…man oh man how wrong was I? First I saw the first gas station I have seen in Spain thus far, and I must say…they are much much cleaner over here. The name of this one was “Agip Espana”, and the setup was the same (large refrigerated section in the back with beer, sodas, GATORADE, and other weird juices) But the bathroom and floor where much more clean than anything I have ever encountered in America. Then after we continued walking we came upon a carnival/fair that was going on in the middle of one of the streets. It was just like the Coastal Carolina Fair or something similar, with rides and amusements and “scam” games. Then we walked further down to the coolest mall I have ever been in. Las Arenas was the name of it, the mall used to be an old arena for various sports and venues but was renovated into a 4 or 5 story mall with a circular observation deck on the roof…that was the best part. Each level is a circle and in the center there is a “floating” landing. There is a movie theater inside as well…the architecture of the place was astonishing…when I go back I will take some pictures but for now just look at this link to get a sense of the building.
Go to the part that says “imagnes del centro”
Then we rode the metro back to la RESA, one thing that I have also noticed about the Metro here is that the third rail is located on the top of the tunnel. That is pretty smart idea for safety; in the event that someone were to fall onto the tracks at least they would not be fried by the third rail. Another thing I learned today was that in order to get off the metro you have to actually push a button on the inside of the door when the train comes to a stop, if you don’t the door will not open automatically.
The first part to our semester long project is due tomorrow; it was a fairly simple assignment that me and my partner Mallory had to complete for tomorrow. Essentially what we had to do was take one of the pictures that we took the other day on the bike tour and highlight what part of the scene we felt was most important about that given “public space”. Here is the image we used. The idea is that area in color is the center of action for this area…it provides occupants with three levels of interaction. First there is the interaction on the street level, then the interaction on the bench/table level, and finally the interaction on the ground level with the wall. This place is designed by our professor and his firm. Also we are going to have to get use to the metric system...real fast! This print is an A3 (after searching the Internet to figure out what that was...it is an 11x17 inch in our terms haha)

  1. You gotta get up to make Mass I'm sure it will be pretty awe inspiring. That Mall is a great example of recycling a building. As for los huevos use the sea salt first then add Moroccan seasoning peppers and onions and you'll be fine.
