Time stops for nothing...

Disclaimer* I am sleep deprived tonight... so I apologize in advanced for any grammatical/spelling errors haha
I didn’t update the blog yesterday because I had a long and tedious night dealing with studio work. Sometimes there just is not enough time in the world to do studio work haha.
Yesterday the day began with a visit to the oldest part of Barcelona… we took "a trip in a time machine"
The place we went to incorporated the old Roman Colony of Barcelona into a museum which houses the ruins underground. The colony dates back to 400 AD, so it is extremely old, everything was pretty much in the same position that it was all those years ago. The colony was built over during medieval times as the new city continued to expand.  It was relatively recent that these ruins were discovered, excavated, preserved, and turned into a museum. We had to take an elevator underground to the old colony, which again is covered by the new city, once underground a museum guide helped us to explore the hidden world that expanded as far as the eye could see.  The “journey” starts off with the earliest ruins and the further you ascend the more recent the ruins are. The final “stop” was the Spanish King and Queen’s private chapel and cathedral. This grand chapel is supposed to be the very room where King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella gave Christopher Columbus the commission to begin his famous voyage to find the new world; it was very chilling and cool to stand where Christopher Columbus once stood.
Our last Spanish culture class was enjoyable; we watched a film by a renowned Spanish filmmaker (Pedro Almodovar). The film was called Volver and it stared Penelope Cruz…very interesting storyline.  The professors brought champagne, Spanish olives, Ham, bread, tomatoes, and a Potato and Egg casserole. Everything was delicious and it was a little bitter-sweet realizing that I would no longer see the two professors…they were very helpful and nice.  Josep, the professor who only speaks Spanish, made a point to shake my hand and ensure me that my questions were always welcome and to email him anytime.
Afterwards Mallory and I had a loooooooooong tedious night preparing our model for today’s class; we did not finish until 3 this morning.
In studio today our review did not go that well…
There was a huge and very problematic miscommunication between Jordi and ourselves, essentially he interpreted our proposal the wrong way because we did not explain it properly, and in return we interpreted his criticism wrong. It was a huge mess and everything came to a “breaking point” in studio today. Jordi was fine with this revelation, however, he explicitly expressed the need for us to rework and revamp our proposal to make it much clearer. So Mallory and I talked after our critique and we formulated, what we believe, a solid and clear proposal and plan for the intervention. We have some work to do this weekend to catch up for this coming weeks midterm…wish me luck!

I think this was inside the "laundromat" part of the village if my memory serves me right

  1. I know that you and mallory will do fine on your project. Just hang in there! Re-focus, re-group, and do you!

  2. Well, that's cool, although Christopher Columbus wasn't exactly a model human being. Volver! I like that movie! I saw it in a Spanish class a few years ago too! But, your Spanish class is already over? I'm sorry to hear your project didn't go as planned. I'm sure it will be better once you two rework the concept.
