Easter Sunday...the last Sunday in Barca.

Happy Easter!

The mass for Easter today was great...the Spanish don't dress up in spring colors like we do back home; so instead of the bright yellows, blues, greens, pinks, purples (and pretty much every other color you can think of) everyone else was wearing browns and blacks! I didn't want to stick out too much so I found a nice medium with khaki and blue. At the end of the service I finally went up to priest and told him thank you for a great mass. I will definitively miss him, he was so fragile but always found strength to get up on the alter and give a great mass...he shook my hand, gave me a hug, and wished me a Happy Easter! I think he actually remembered me from the entire semester...or maybe he was happy to see youth in church...or maybe he is just that nice of a person? Perhaps it is a combination of them all!

After mass we went out for our Easter lunch at a nearby restaurant...I finally had paella one more time; it was really good, I had the "paella mixta" which came with mussels, vegetables, chicken, pork, calamari, and shrimp! I also had churros with chocolate for the first time...I will also miss this Spanish custom, those sweet "dough sticks" are delicious.

Spent the rest of the day walking around the city and discovering a few more hidden gems before I leave. A few of us found a really cool tea house...that was all I needed. This tea house had every kind of tea imaginable, white, green, black, chai, herbal, roobios, and other creative infusions! I tried a variation of Chai tea called "Yogi" tea, it had chai spices, milk, honey and ginger...it was the most "spicy" tea I have ever tasted but it was great.

Tomorrow is another day of exploring and possibly beach time...

  1. Happy Easter. "Paella mixta", sounds good. I also love paella, but I can't find good paella in Maryland. I think the first time I had paella was on the Island of Palma in the 80s.
