Segundo Dia (Day 2)

Second day in Barca!

Today was just as event-full as yesterday...started off with a walk through the market. The market is very neat...everything is fresh and open to view and buy right in your face. Had brunch there which consisted of a Bocato (artisan bread with cheese and chorizo sage...very good) and a mango/orange juice (freshly squeezed right in front of your face). This meal was ONLY 4 EUROS!!! Afterwards we went on a bus tour for the ENTIRE DAY! We traveled around all of Barcelona on a two Decker style bus and actually got off and walked around on a few of the sites! Took A WHOLE LOT OF PICTURES today and some videos. Visited everything from Sagrada Familia (most influential and famous work of architecture in Barcelona and extremely important to Spanish architecture) to the 1992 Olympic stadium and event complexes...to Camp Nou (where the FC Barcelona football club plays).  Then went and bought my first groceries in Spain from Cortes Ingles (there version of a walmart). The Cortes Ingles was absolutely incredible...I have never seen so many people in a store at one time...it was very confusing and discombobulating to shop there, Hardly anyone spoke English and all of the products were in Spanish/Catalan and the amount of people there made walmart on Christmas eve or black Friday look vacant! Not to mention the store has about 4 levels (supermarket/grocery on bottom, clothes and other departments on the other floors...HUGE STORE)...but for some reason I enjoyed it a lot cannot wait to shop there again.

First Day in Barca!

Today was an event full day...and it is not even over yet! I was extremely tired from the flights so I went to bed at about 9pm last night and I did not awake until 12 noon today! So I am caught up on all my rest! Today I activated a cell phone...the NUMBER is 698-227-461. The guy told me that local and international calls are 6 cents a minute (Euros), I am not exactly sure how to operate it but I will learn. I had a minor scare today when I went to withdraw money from an ATM, everything worked fine until the machine was supposed to give me my money but it never did, I thought I had lost 50 Euros (approx. 65$). Luckily the transaction did not go through with the bank (I checked online). On a more positive note I have taken over 100 photos already...visited two Antoni Gaudi (VERY VERY famous Spanish architect...we study alot of his stuff in school) buildings today and ordered Chinese food in Spanish for lunch! The day is still young over here in Spain dinner will not start for another two or so hours...

Barcelona...Arrival!

Finally here, in Barcelona!! The plane ride from London was smooth and as I predicted I hit a brick wall and fell asleep in the airport terminal and throughout the majority of the flight. Right now I am getting settled into my RESA dorm room... it is not too bad. Hopefully I can look at phones/SIM cards soon, and possibly get a number I can give out! More to come soon...

Heathrow Airport!!!!

Landed safely at Gatwick airport early this morning at about 6:20am. Then Got my passport stamped and got on the National Express Coach services which took me to Heathrow. THIS AIRPORT IS GI-NORMOUS!!! THERE IS NO FREE WI-FI either so this is costing me euros already!! Shout out to Aunt Jane and Uncle Steve b/c those coin Euros are already coming in handy. Plus I had to search this monstrous building just to find a CP that I could use to Update. Anyhow pictures will follow when I have access to my laptop, flight to Barcelona is at 11:25am (6:25am for y'all). Next post will be from my room in Barcelona!!!!

Today is the Day!!

About to leave for Myrtle Beach....flight to Charlotte....then London.....then BARRRRRRRCELONA!
I am extremely nervous....but also very excited.... last blog post from Charleston, SC. Next blog post will be from Spain wooohoo!
